A Recap of Life After Birth, My Self-Care Journey, and Tips for Advocating for Your Health

LIFE AFTER BIRTH RECAP - MARCH 29 | 12-2PM

This past Saturday, we gathered in sacred community for Life After Birth, a transformative workshop co-hosted by myself, three powerful birth workers, and an insightful educator. From 12 to 2PM, we held space for honest conversations about the realities of postpartum life—beyond the baby shower and birth.
Together, we peeled back the layers of what it truly means to live after birth—addressing healing, identity shifts, emotional wellness, and the urgent need for culturally grounded postpartum care. Our panel shared wisdom on mental health, navigating the fourth trimester, and building supportive systems that truly center the mother’s experience.
One of the most powerful moments came from the voice of a father in the room, who vulnerably shared his learning curve in supporting his wife through birth and the postpartum period. His honesty reminded us that healing is collective—and that partners, too, are navigating transformation in this sacred season.
Attendees left with resources, rituals, and a renewed sense of community. Life After Birth wasn’t just a workshop—it was a witness to our stories, a celebration of our resilience, and a call to continue building villages that nurture mothers and everyone who supports them.
I ENROLLED IN SELF CARE SCHOOL

I committed to Self-Care School, a free, 10-week walking classroom that teaches ancestral self-care through 30-minute daily walks and powerful podcast lessons. Led by Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Renae, co-founders of GirlTrek, I am learning to reset my body, protect my peace, and reclaim my joy.
I signed up to improve my health and lower my blood pressure, but this journey gave me so much more than that—it was about wellness, movement, and sisterhood.
If you’re ready to prioritize YOU and reclaim your wellness, Self-Care School is for you. It’s free to join, and I highly recommend it. Lace up, walk it out, and heal with us.

Coochie Corner: Advocating for Your Health Like a Boss ✨💪🏾
When you step into that doctor’s office, remember one thing: you are the expert on YOU. Too often, we’re brushed aside or our concerns are dismissed. But not today, not anymore. Here are some personal advocacy tips to make sure you’re heard and treated with the care you deserve:
Know Your Body – Keep track of your health, symptoms, and any changes you’ve noticed. Being in tune with your body means you’re prepared to speak confidently about your concerns.
Ask Questions – Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification. If something doesn’t feel right, or if you don’t understand the diagnosis or treatment plan, ask questions until you do.
Be Clear About Your Health Goals – Tell your doctor what you want to achieve, whether it’s managing blood pressure, reducing pain, or preventing illness. Your health journey is yours, and your doctor should help you get there.
Bring a Support System – Take a trusted friend, family member, or advocate with you to appointments if you need backup. They can help take notes and ensure you’re not overlooked.
Speak Up About Your Concerns – If you feel something is off or you’re not being taken seriously, speak up. If you’re met with resistance, don’t hesitate to seek a second opinion. Your health matters.
Know Your Rights – You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Don’t accept dismissiveness or disrespect from medical professionals. Your health is a priority.
Remember, you deserve to be heard, and advocating for yourself is an act of self-love and empowerment. Trust your instincts and never settle for less than the care you need.
