Birthing Justice: Black Maternal Health Week with The Coochie Coach
Centering care, currency, and community for every Black womb.

This week marks Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) — a time to amplify the voices, stories, and needs of Black birthing people across the country. At The Coochie Coach LLC, we don’t just observe — we activate.

For too long, the disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black women and birthing people have been ignored, overlooked, and underfunded. BMHW is a time to speak truth to power, center joy and justice, and expand what’s possible when Black wombs are held with care — not just during labor, but before conception and long after birth.
This year, The Coochie Coach LLC is proud to announce a new commitment:
We’re building intentional bridges with OB/GYNs and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to expand access, deepen trust, and raise awareness around Black maternal health outcomes. These partnerships will allow us to:
• Integrate culturally-informed doula support into more OB/GYN offices
• Educate providers and insurers on the real value of Black-led birth work
• Ensure Medicaid-covered birthing folks have access to the holistic care they deserve
• Push forward conversations about reproductive justice, bodily autonomy, and Black maternal health

This is more than awareness — it’s action.
This is more than a week — it’s a movement.
We believe birth should not be a battleground for Black women. It should be a portal for power, peace, and possibility.
We invite OBs, midwives, managed care execs, and fellow doulas to connect with us during this week to explore how we can co-create a safer, more supportive system — one that values Black life from bump to baby and beyond.
Let’s birth a better future. Together.

In honor of Black Maternal Health Week, I'm intentionally making space to reflect, connect, and amplify the voices of those doing the work. Here's how I'm showing up each day—and how you can too.
🌿 Day 1: Networking in Brooklyn with Mama Glow
→ Take time today to connect with your community. Whether it's a text, DM, or coffee chat—reaching out matters.
🌀 Day 2: Private meeting with a birth specialist
→ Consider learning something new about maternal health. Read an article, share a resource, or start a conversation.
✨ Day 3: Attending the Doulas Connect Event
→ Shout out a doula, midwife, or birthworker who inspires you. Tag them. Tell them. Thank them.
🤝 Day 4: Meeting a new client
→ If you're in this work too, reflect on your why. What brought you here? Who are you doing it for?
📲 Day 5: Live at 5 on IG
→ Join the convo! Tune in, drop a comment, or reshare the Live to your stories. Let’s keep the dialogue going.
📢 Day 6: Speaking on The State of Black Maternal Health
→ Watch a panel, attend a webinar, or simply listen to the lived experiences of Black birthing people. Then, amplify.
🍽 Day 7: Discussions Over Dinner
→ Create space—around your table, in your group chat, or on your timeline—to talk about what still needs to change.
🖤✨ Let’s honor this week with action, awareness, and love.
