Hello October: Holding the Sacred, the Sweet & the Sovereign

From The Desk (and Heart) of Nikki Brown, The Coochie Coach

Hey Sacred Ones,

October has arrived with its cool breeze and bold truth. 🍂

The air is crisp. The leaves are shifting. And so are we.

This month holds so much.

I’m still glowing from an intimate birthday celebration.

I’m heading into my 30th college homecoming, yes, 30 years since I first stepped on that campus.

And I’ve recently had the honor of walking alongside a sister-friend making a deeply personal, powerful decision about her body and her life.

Birthday Energy: Softer, Deeper, Truer

This year, I chose to celebrate quietly.

Not because I’m shrinking but because I’m sacred.

I’m learning that I don’t need to be seen by the world to feel seen by God, by Spirit, by my own reflection.

I chose presence over performance.

Intimacy over itinerary.

And love, not just from others, but from within.

Homecoming: 30 Years of Becoming

This month, I return to my alma mater for a milestone homecoming.

30 years since the beginning of an era.

30 years of rising, breaking, healing, laughing, birthing, and rebuilding.

30 years of lessons that shaped the doula, mother, lover, and leader I’ve become.

Going back isn’t just nostalgic, it’s a reclamation.

I walk those grounds as a woman who knows who she is and who she’s not.

Standing With a Sister in Sovereignty

Recently, I had the sacred honor of holding space for a sister-friend as she made the sovereign choice to end a pregnancy.

There was no shame, only power. No judgment, only reverence.

It reminded me that bodily autonomy is not political, it’s personal, primal, and deeply sacred.

I showed up, not just as a friend, but as a doula of life, of grief, of choice, and of healing.

Let this serve as a reminder:

You can be both soft and strong.

You can choose yourself and still be full of love.

And no one gets to narrate your story but you.

“Let October Teach You to Make Space For It All.”

This week, try this practice:

🕯 Light a candle for something you’re releasing

📜 Write a list of truths you’re no longer willing to deny

💧 Let a tear fall without rushing to stop it

🤍 Wrap yourself in something soft and say:

“I am safe, I am sovereign, and I am whole.”

You don’t have to choose between joy and grief, celebration and contemplation.

You are big enough to hold it all.

Final Words for This Fall Beginning

This month, I’m holding it all:

The celebration and the shadow.

The release and the return.

The softness and the strategy.

And I invite you to do the same.

Whether you’re dancing through joy, standing with a sister, or coming home to yourself know this:

You’re not alone. You’re not behind. And you’re not broken.

You are walking your own sacred timeline.

And October is here to whisper:

“Let go, and let more come in.”

With reverence, rhythm, and radical love,

Nikki Brown

Ceremonies of Release, Renewal, and Womb Sovereignty

Here are 5 sacred ceremonies that women can do, alone or in community to honor, process, and heal after choosing to terminate a pregnancy. Each is grounded in self-compassion, ritual, body-based wisdom, and womb sovereignty. These are not about shame or sorrow but about sacred recognition, closure, and calling back your energy.

1. The Womb Clearing & Reclamation Ritual

Purpose: To energetically release the spirit of the pregnancy, honor what was, and reclaim your womb space as whole and sovereign.

How to do it:

  • Create a sacred space with candlelight, incense, flowers, and water.

  • Place both hands over your womb and breathe deeply.

  • Say aloud:
“I honor the life that chose not to stay. I release you with love. I welcome myself home.”

  • Visualize golden light flooding your womb and surrounding your body.

  • Close by journaling what your womb wants you to know now.

This ritual affirms that you are not broken, but blessed with choice, and deserving of peace.

2. Light & Letter Ceremony

Purpose: To name and release the spirit or energy of the pregnancy with reverence.

How to do it:

  • Write a letter to the spirit of the child or the experience itself.

  • Say everything: love, grief, confusion, peace, whatever is real.

  • Light a candle and read the letter aloud.

  • Burn the letter (safely) or bury it in soil to symbolize transformation and return to the earth.

  • Say:
“You came through me for a reason. I trust your journey, and I honor mine.”

This is a sacred goodbye, but also a sacred honoring.

3. Healing Waters Bath Ceremony

Purpose: To soothe the nervous system, wash away guilt or emotional residue, and offer your body comfort and care.

How to do it:

  • Fill a warm bath with rose petals, lavender, chamomile, and Epsom salts.

  • Play soft music or simply sit in silence.

  • Place your hands on your heart and womb while in the bath and affirm:
“I am clean. I am whole. I am free.”

  • Stay until your body feels softened, not just your skin.

Water holds memory. This allows you to re-remember your power.

4. Moon Cycle Integration Ritual (Best During New or Full Moon)

Purpose: To align your experience with the natural rhythms of release and rebirth.

How to do it:

  • Under a new moon: write intentions for healing, renewal, and emotional sovereignty.

  • Under a full moon: write what you’re ready to release.

  • Say:
“As the moon shifts, so do I. I welcome the next cycle of my becoming.”

  • Burn or bury your note under moonlight or place it under your altar.

This ceremony reconnects you with the sacredness of your body’s cycles and wisdom.

5. Sacred Sister Witnessing Circle

Purpose: To be seen, held, and affirmed by other women without shame, judgment, or fixing.

How to do it:

  • Invite one or more trusted women to sit with you, virtually or in person.

  • Share your story or your silence. Let them witness with open hearts.

  • Let them speak words of affirmation over you like:
“You are still sacred. You are still mother. You are still magic.”

  • End with a group breath or hand on heart/womb connection.

Because we were never meant to heal in isolation.
